About · Our story

A new name. The same climb.

Three names. One academy. The work never stopped.

Loma Academy is the third name of one academy. It began as Young Doctors FC — founded in 2017 by Alpha Bangura in Calaba Town, Freetown — was renamed Bangs FC, the name it operates under today, and is now reborn as Loma Academy. Three names. One academy. The work never stopped.

Young Doctors FC trained boys from our community and gave them a route forward: youth football in Freetown, loans to senior clubs, and — for standout graduate Alpha Kabia, with Young Doctors from age 8 to 17 (a true homegrown product) — a pro contract in the USA with Minnesota United's MNUFC2 (MLS NEXT Pro). Fellow Young Doctors product Momoh Kamara is also part of the Loma story. In April 2023 our U-13s pushed eventual champions HADA FC to a penalty shoot-out at the SLFA Youth Football Festival, Murray Town.

As Bangs FC, the same academy kept developing players in Calaba Town. Loma Academy is that academy, rebuilt to a higher standard: same roots, now with a real education programme, visible safeguarding, and an honest pathway to pro football and scholarships. Our new name comes from the Loma Mountains, home to Sierra Leone's highest peak. Every player here is on a climb. Our job is to make sure no one climbs alone.

Why “Loma”

Loma Academy takes its name from the Loma Mountains in northern Sierra Leone, home to Mount Bintumani, the highest peak in the country. Every great player starts at the bottom of a climb. Our job is to guide that climb — with football, education and character — step by step, until a young person from Sierra Leone stands where the whole world can see them.

Mission and vision

Sierra Leone's pathway academy.

Loma Academy is Sierra Leone's pathway academy. We find talented boys and girls wherever they are in Salone, develop them with elite football coaching, a real education and strong character, and connect the best of them to professional clubs, scholarships and national teams — honestly, safely, and with their families involved at every step.
